Excursions on a Billings Tune (Chester Kicks Up His Heels), for flute and piano, is a set of six "journeys" based on the William Billings "hit tune" Chester, from the time of the American Revolution. Each movement has a serious title, and a humorous subtitle - as suggested by Chester himself! Accessible, yet entertaining, this work explores a variety of techniques and tonalities, and can open the door to music history as well.
